The
Hellenic Cultural Institute KORYFEI is a non-profit institution based
in Montreal. Founded in October 1991 by some of the Greek community's
most prolific and proficient dancers/instructors, KORYFEI aims at
the research, preservation, study and representation of authentic
Greek heritage and culture.
KORYFEI's dancers/instructors use as educational sources, either in their initial formation or in the refinement of their acquired skills, various recognized professionals in the field as well as dance seminars offered in different regions of Greece and North America.
KORYFEI can boast a selection of varied and traditional costumes, a combination of authentic steps and choreographies that exceed 400 dances and a library consisting of audio and visual tapes, as well as photographic and written documentation pertaining to Greek dances. Furthermore, KORYFEI is also composed of a troupe of skillful musicians loyal to the instrumentation of authentic Greek folk music. Members of KORYFEI also specialize in the fabrication of traditional Greek costumes.
KORYFEI has a strong commitment to preserve and promote Greek culture and heritage through collaboration with other ethnographic institutions of North America and abroad.
